Accelerator Driven Sub-critical Nuclear Reactors

Linear ion accelerators can produce a neutron flux that transmutes fertile actinides into fissionable fuel. The chain reaction in this fuel can be controlled by the accelerators as well. Our challenge is to reduce the sizeand complexity of these accelerators such that they can reliably drive a dispatchable small modular reactor. Thegoal is small, safe, flexible, and economical power sources that can operate in a large grid or stand alone.
